Grafting is a method of vegetative plant propagation. It involves the process of joining either two whole plants, a portion of one plant (such as a branch or bud) with an entire plant, or two plant parts, with the purpose of growing together and coexisting for a long period. The plant or plant part that provides the support and roots is called the rootstock, while the plant part that forms the stem and its branches is called the scion.
To successfully perform grafting, a range of specific tools and materials is required, and the success of the process largely depends on their quality. Among the necessary tools and materials are: knife, pruning shears, wax, and tape.
